Leeds and The Thousand Islands Public Library seeks to hire a student for a summer contract position.  The successful candidate will have the skills to assist the library public of all ages with programming and computers.

 

The primary duty for this contract is to assist our Program Coordinator with the Summer Reading Program for children ages 6 and up.  This program features stories, creative projects and literacy-based games. Previous experience working with children will be helpful.  Another task of this position is conducting one-on-one public computer and internet training sessions.  Therefore, candidates will be very knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and the Internet.  General library duties will be assigned as time permits.  A general understanding of the role of the public library in the community will be a definite asset.

 

Wage rate: $10.78 per hour

Hours of work: Monday 4-8, Tuesday 1-5, Wednesday 9-4, Thursday 1-8                                  Saturdays (10-2) = 24 hours per week

Start date: July 9

Length of contract: 6 or 7 weeks

Location:  Lansdowne Branch (some shifts at other branches)

 

Eligibility requirements:

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age

Be eligible for employment in Canada and have a Social Insurance Number

Must have means of transportation to and from work

Job Description

 

 

The student will work under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Program Coordinator and branch Library Assistants. 

 

The student will assist the Program Coordinator with the promotion, preparation and delivery of the library’s weekly Summer Reading Program for children ages 6 and up.

 

The student will be asked to provide one-on-one computer lessons to the public on the use of the library’s database, on-line resources, the internet and word processing.

 

Other general library duties will be required as time permits.

 

This student position will be hosted at the Lansdowne Branch.  Some shifts may be required at other branches.

 

 

Qualifications:

·        Applicants must be at least 16 years of age

·        Be eligible for employment in Canada

·        Have a Social Insurance Number

·        Must have means of transportation to and from work
